Butkus-Fitzgerald Linebacker of the Year: Joe Schobert, Wisconsin

There may have been bigger names and more highly touted players coming in to the 2015 season, but no linebacker had a more productive and impressive season than Wisconsin’s senior linebacker Joe Schobert.

Sure, outside linebackers are expected to be productive behind the line of scrimmage in Dave Aranda’s 3-4 defense. However, Schobert took that to another level to say the least.

He finished the season third in tackles for loss (18.5) and sacks (9.5), all while dealing with multiple schemes set to take him out of the picture. As the season went on, teams began scheming against his side of the football and that is all one needs to know about his impact in the 2015 season.
