Previews, Predictions for Week 5 of Big Ten football

The awfulness that was most of the non-conference season is winding down, with just two teams playing games outside of the Big Ten. For us that means it’s time to hunker down and figure out who is for real and who was just pretending with a weak non-conference schedule.

While this isn’t the first week with a conference game, it is the first week with more than one and that means we can stop talking about what happens outside of the league and focus on who is going to emerge from the new divisions and head to Indianapolis.

One game, one week won’t decide the Big Ten title for anyone or take them out of the race, but for some teams getting off on the right foot could be the difference between a coach staying or leaving at the end of the year.

Make no mistake about it, Week 5 is important — especially so to those in the Big Ten West, where four of the six teams are facing off against each other.

Before we get to this week’s action, let’s remind you of where our staff of experts stand in our predictions for the season and those big games we have been previewing all non-conference season.
