Old Oaken Bucket, Heroes, Paul Bunyan’s Axe, Land of Lincoln and of course the Land-Grant…those are the trophies on the line as the Big Ten closes out conference play with a slate of pretty important games.
None will be bigger that the late-afternoon affair in Madison, Wis. as the Badgers and Gophers continue the most-played rivalry in FBS history. All that’s on the line is the Big Ten West division title and a battle with Ohio State for the Big Ten championship.
Heck, we haven’t even talked about “The Game” between Ohio State and Michigan. Could this be the swan song for Michigan coach Brady Hoke? On the other side, Ohio State has clinched its berth in the Big Ten championship game but still has work to do to reach the College Football Playoff.
There’s also bowl game eligibility on the line in the battle for the hearts and minds of Chicagoans between Illinois and Northwestern.
Point is, plenty is on the line across the Big Ten in the final week. It all points to the smart decision to place the biggest rivalry games in the conference on the final weekend of the season. We have one huge weekend ahead of us, a great celebration to lead into the post-season.
