Adidas gets it right in Huskers new alternate uniforms

Nebraska sets out to honor the 1997 Huskers team with an alternate uniform from adidas. Surprisingly, it doesn’t suck at all.

You knew the 1997 Nebraska Cornhuskers’ 20th anniversary season was going to be celebrated. What we didn’t know is that official uniform supplier, adidas, was actually going to get an alternate uniform correct.

After a bit of speculation, the 1997 Huskers-inspired uniforms were officially announced on Thursday afternoon. Let’s just say it was about time adidas got some alternate uniforms done correctly.

You’ll see a faux-mesh like was still popular back in 1997. Here is a look at the uniforms as released by the Nebraska athletic department:

You’ll also see the stripes that were on the uniform then in a much more prominent way. However, those will clearly come from the undershirt they will be wearing and not the shoulders of the uniform as technology has changed that much in uniform design.

One of the more subtle, but still cool, changes is the look back to the gloves that were worn back in 1997. In the picture of the player holding his face, you can see the old Husker helmet in a triangle logo that was popular in that day.

It’s a small, but really telling detail. It’s one that shows adidas didn’t skimp on this one and came up with all ideas possible to honor that team.

Naturally, the Huskers will be wearing them for their biggest home game of the season, as they take on the Wisconsin Badgers in early October.
