Way-too-early 2015-16 Big Ten basketball rankings

13. Penn State Nittany Lions

Gone is Penn State’s leading scorer, the Big Ten’s leading scorer and the heat and soul of the Penn State Nittany Lions — D.J. Newbill. Replacing his 20.7 points per game won’t be easy on a team that didn’t have a lot of help for him either. Also gone is forward Ross Travis, who was a key cog in the defensive scheme for Pat Chambers.

The good news is there is some hope in the form of guard Shep Garner. He looked good at times throughout his freshman season and is a player this group can build around. Additionally, there is a recruiting class that features four-star power forward Mike Watkins and four-star shooting guard Josh Reaves. Those are two nice building blocks to put around Garner.

However, this is the Big Ten and unless that youth comes to play early and often, it could be another long season in Happy Valley.
