Big Ten Basketball Power Rankings: Week 1

The cupcake opening weekend went nearly perfect, minus that whole Minnesota blow out and Rutgers being Rutgers basketball things. So, as we head in to a much more difficult week ahead for Big Ten basketball, where do the teams stack up?

If anything the Big Ten proved the middle of the conference is going to be tough to separate until we get to conference play. The tough task of figuring out who belongs in what spot goes to our distinguished panel of writers, so give them all a follow on Twitter and visit their team coverage.

On to the Poll…

– After seeing Michigan State and Wisconsin actually play a meaningful game, it was clear who was the better team. MSU struggled mightily with Navy, while the Badgers beat up on Northern Kentucky and Tennessee-Chattanooga. All things being the same, the Badgers are far ahead of where the Spartans are, but will it stay that way come the end of the season?

– With only Rutgers and Minnesota losing this past weekend, there was not much room for movement from the preseason rankings. However, come next week we’ll likely see a very different scenario thanks to much more difficult games ahead.
