Big Ten

The Big Ten is still smarter than your favorite conference

The Center for World University Rankings just released its list of the Top 50 Universities in the World for 2014, and there is one American conference that rules the roost — the Big Ten. With the addition of Rutgers to the fold, the Big Ten now has eight schools in the Top 50 Universities in the World.

Yes, Pac-12 schools like Stanford and Cal-Berkley stand in the top 10 of the rankings, but there’s no conference with the sheer volume of representation that the Big Ten has. The Pac-12 put four schools on to this list and both the ACC (three) and Big 12 (one school) put schools in the Top 50 as well.

The Big Ten was represented in the Top 50 by Michigan (No. 21), Northwestern (No. 23), Wisconsin (No. 25), Illinois (No. 28), Rutgers (No. 33), Penn State (No. 46), Ohio State (No. 47) and Minnesota (No. 49).

Noticeably absent from this list? The mighty S-E-C, whose apparent mission statement must be to produce national championship football teams and screw the education for the rest of the students on campus.

For those keeping score (and we are), the Big Ten has over half of its now 14 member schools in the Top 50 of the world. In fact, the only Big Ten school to not rank in the Top 125 of the world is the University of Nebraska, who comes in at No. 355 in the world.

Hey, Huskers, mind stepping your academic game up? You’re embarrassing the rest of us.
