Over the next few weeks we’ll be counting down to the start of the college basketball season, and we’ll do that by highlighting the 30 Big Ten players you need to know for the 2014-15 season.
No. 29 – Myles Mack, Rutgers
2013-14 Stats: 14.9ppg, 2.7rpg, 4.3apg, 40.3 FG %, 37 3pt FG %
Career Stats: 12.8ppg, 2.4rpg, 3.0apg, 42.2 FG %, 38.6 3pt FG %
Why you need to know him: Head coach Eddie Jordan has his work cut out for him in turning around a disgraced and historically awful Rutgers basketball program. One reason to have any sort of optimism is because of guard Myles Jack.
Not only is Jack the leading returning scorer for the Scarlet Knights, but he is also the floor general for this team. He led Rutgers with 4.3 assists per game and is a steadying force amongst all the tragedy and change that has happened in Piscataway. Mack is also pretty good with not turning the ball over, with last years 2.6 turnovers per game being an anomaly to the rest of his career.
What will also help him is that the Big Ten doesn’t have a lot of known quantities at point guard entering this season. He may not be the most flashy of players, but he’s a very quality point guard and Rutgers would be screwed without him as they head in to the first year of Big Ten play.
