Over the next few weeks we’ll be counting down to the start of the college basketball season, and we’ll do that by highlighting the 30 Big Ten players you need to know for the 2014-15 season.
No. 30 – James Blackmon Jr. (Indiana)
2013-14 season stats: N/A
Why you need to know him: Blackmon not only has the pedigree factor, as his dad James Blackmon Sr. was the runner-up to Steve Alford his senior season in high school and played four years at the University of Kentucky. He takes a lot from his dad’s game, but is his own man and one of the best incoming freshmen the Big Ten will have.
The younger Blackmon was a slick shooting guard, averaging 33.1 points, 1.8 assists and 4.4 rebounds a game in his senior season at Marion High School. He’ll likely be an opening day starter and playing alongside Yogi Ferrell this season should emphasis his off-ball abilities. Watch for Blackmon Jr. to be a player up for Big Ten Freshman of the Year when the season is over.
