RayVonte Rice and Aaron Cosby had a chance to return to action for the Illinois basketball team on Saturday. That chance turned in to a fat chance, as it’s being reported that both players have been suspended indefinitely by head coach John Groce.

“Rayvonte and Aaron have been suspended indefinitely for a violation of team rules,” said coach John Groce in a statement. “Hopefully they will make better choices and make the necessary progress to rejoin our lineup.”
No specific reason was given for the two suspensions in the release, but this isn’t good news for an Illini program in desperate need of some star power.
Rice has missed the last six games since suffering a broken left hand early in January and Cosby has been nursing a retinal tear in his eye. That injury has kept him out of the last two games, and he’ll be out again on Saturday and possibly longer.
Illinois is stuck in neutral on the court so far this season, owning a 13-8 record overall and are 3-5 in Big Ten play so far this season. Getting Rice and Cosby back would’ve helped them get back to the .500 mark in conference play, with games against Penn State and Rutgers upcoming.
